Tankless water heaters are moving into the mainstream as more homeowners calculate the costs and see the advantage of dumping their traditional water heater. Why should you think about installing a tankless hot water heater?

There are several pros and few cons in using an instantaneous, or deman water heater. One factor is an increase in your energy effeciency, and a the lowering of your energy bill. This is because a traditional hot water heater is always turning on in order to heat the water in the tank, whether you are home or not. It doesn’t matter if you are using hot water at all, as the water cools and energy is lost. The hot water heater has to turn on to heat it back up.

This is referred to as standby loss, the energy escaping from the water sitting there in the tank. Households generally will save about 20 percent off their monthly water heating bill by switching to a tankless hot water heater. Current estimates say the water heating part of your energy costs about 15 percent of your total energy used, so you can see how this is a quite a monthly cost.

Another consideration with a tankless hot water system is access to unlimited hot water. The heating in a tankless hot water heater is activated by the flow of water, so when your house demands hot water, the tankless heater can produce it for hours on end if need be. The only limit is due to the size of the tankless heater you install. Whole house water heaters can offer between 2-5 gallons of hot water per minute. Quite a difference that a 35-50 gallon traditional water heater in most homes.

There are two kinds of tankless hot water systems, gas and electric. Electric tankless water heaters are usually small, and designed for a point of use installation. That means is can be used for one small area in the house, like a kitchen sink or a washer. Gas tankless water heaters cost more and require a different installataion. They can be used for the entire house, if a large enough heater is installed. On demand water heaters like this are powered by propane or natural gas, and should be professionally installed.

Your cost consideration is another factor. Tankless hot water heaters usaully cost 2 to 4 times as much as a regular hot water heater. Install fees are higher too, and this should be added in to your budget. But the higher start-up cost is offset over the years by a lower energy fees. Tankless hot water dealers can add up the total costs for you based on your current energy bill. Dealers can also give the homeowner information on what the manufacturers such as Titan, Noritz, Rinnia and Bosch have as far as various units. Most households save $55-110 every year when using a tankless hot water system designed for the whole house.

The nice thing with most tankless systems is that they will last more than 20 years. That is another advantage over traditional water heaters, which have a life span of 15 years at most. This is certainly another thing to consider when looking into tankless hot water heater.

Many of us have trouble these days making ends meet. We work full time jobs, but they just don’t pay enough. So what do you do if you need some quick cash to get out of a jam? Can you go out an get another full time ob, or find a quick fix instead?

Here are 4 ideas for side jobs or cash jobs you can do to make some fast side money.

Clean Gutters

Most homes are equipped with rain gutters, and most homeowners don’t clean them out after the leaves fall off the trees! Clogged gutters can cause water to back up into the roof eaves and rot the wood.

In addition, people just do not like to climb on the roof. You can offer this easy service as a way to make some fast cash.

All you need are a ladder and a pair of gloves. You simply climb on the roof, carefully, and scoop out the debris and you’re done! The average house should take you about 30 minutes and make you between $30 and $50 depending on what you agree to.

If you have a gas powered leaf blower, you can take that up on the roof with you to make the job go faster and smoother. Just be prepared to clean up the ground below a bit when you are done.

Clean and Wash Windows

While you are cleaning the gutters, you can ask the customer if you can wash their windows! This is just as easy and can make you another $50 easily. I recommend cleaning just the outside and not entering the house for legal reasons.

All you need for this is the same ladder, paper towels, small squeegee and some window cleaner with vinegar. It is best to practice this one at your own house to perfect your technique before charging someone for the service.

Rake Leaves

If their gutters are clogged with leaves, chances are they have more of them on the ground below. You can rake them into the street and call the city to suck them up if ordinances allow, or charge the customer to place them in refuse bags.

I like to charge by the hour for this particular service.

Wash Cars

People drive to the car wash and pay as much as $15 to have their vehicle run through a water shower in 3 minutes. What if you knocked on their door and offered a complete hand wash for the same money?

All you need here is a bucket, sponge, dish soap and a drying towel. You can use their hose. Just be sure you don’t streak the windows. You can also offer tire shine for an additional couple bucks.

If you’re really ambitious, you can offer a complete interior detail service as well. This is especially appealing to those who have long commutes and are not always able to keep their vehicles clean. With this service, you may need a shop vacuum as well.

There are any number of ways to make some quick cash doing odd jobs, it’s just a matter of finding the people who are already looking for you.

It all started at a cat show when one of the woman exhibiters noticed my

fondness for her cats. We spoke about the prize Siamese cats that she owned and her problems as a cat breeder. She told me that she lived alone and was victimized by burglars many times. If it was possible to have a good watchdog she would have one, but her cats are frightened at the sight of a dog. I told her that I was homeless and that if she would let me live among her cats I would act as her watchdog. She was shocked that an elderly man such as myself would offer to take a position as a human watchdog. But out of desperation she accepted my offer and I was given a cot in the room where she kept her cats.

The cats room was more comfortable than I had Expected. It contained a toilet, a shower, and a canvas cot. There were twenty two Siamese cats to keep me company. My new life as a watchdog was a great opportunity and I was lucky to have met that lady. The cats were fed twice a day by her. She prepared special food for me which I loved. It consisted of chopped raw beef mixed with nuts and vegetables. A large container of milk was there for me at dinner time. I earned my keep when I heard a noise coming from the living room window. A stranger with a metal bar was trying to pry it open. Instead of calling the police I barked and howled at him, it worked because he quickly ran away when he heard those sounds.

My owner never spoke but often hugged and kissed me on the forehead. I was happy when she did because it made me feel wanted. One day after kissing me she said that for the first time in her life she has fallen deeply in love. She told me that she hated all men and never dated a man in over forty years. Until I became her favorite pet her life was empty. I was shocked to hear her say that I could move into her bedroom. I refused her generous offer because I needed time to think it over. Besides I was comfortable living among the cats without any responsibility but as a watchdog.

Instead of breaking her heart I said that she could still express her love by meeting me in the cats room as often as possible. I said that I still needed her hugs and kisses but only as her favorite pet. She agreed and we are both having a great relationship. But there are thoughts that come to me late at night, they are about sleeping in my owners bedroom. If they continue I am sure to wind up there.
