How to- mount a kitchen sink
Mounting A Kitchen Sink
1.
Step 1
Remove the new kitchen sink from its packaging and ensure that all required parts have been included.
2.
Step 2
Use the enclosed template to trace an outline on a new countertop. If replacing the sink in the existing countertop, remove the old silicone sealant and wipe the area with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or grim that could prevent a good seal of the new sink to the counter.
3.
Step 3
Cut a hole in the countertop using a skillsaw. Follow the line traced from the template. Take care to cut on the inside of the line to prevent from cutting the hole too big. Be sure not to cut the hole any larger than the template dictates or the sink will not fit properly.
4.
Step 4
Set the new sink in the hole to ensure the hole was cut correctly and that the sink will sit correctly when secured.
5.
Step 5
Remove the sink from the hole after checking the fit and turn the sink upside down on the floor.
6.
Step 6
Place a thick bead of silicone along the entire edge of the sink that will come in contact with the countertop using a tube in a caulking gun. This silicone will act to seal the sink to the counter and prevent water from leaking between the sink and the countertop where it could do damage.
7.
Step 7
Set the sink in place. Try to ensure the sink is lined up properly before allowing the silicone to touch the counter as this will help prevent a mess.
8.
Step 8
Go into the cabinet under the sink and attach the hold-down screws. Place them at even intervals around the sink. There should be at least two per side. Tighten the hold-down screws with a screwdriver.
9.
Step 9
Cut away the extra silicone after it has dried with a razor blade. Be careful not to mark the countertop with the razor blade while removing the extra silicone.
10.
Step 10
Install the faucet per manufacturer’s instructions and drain baskets in the bottom of the sink. Attach water and drain lines and test the sink for leaks.
