Is it smart to buy a house next to a roofing supply company?

My wife and I found the perfect house in a desirable town (its been rated as one of the safest, great school districts, etc.). Only potential issue is, there is a roofing supply company next door. Should I be worried about noise or any other issues? I’m not even sure what a roofing supply company does!

a roofing supply company supplies materials for roofs, tiles and slates felt and battens etc. and yes it will be noisy during business hours, you can also expect a lot of traffic driving past your house to get to the roofing co.is it smart to buy this house ?.thats up to you,but i think the price should reflect the fact that your house is next to buisiness, about 10% less than a similar house in a totally residential street.good luck

Living in a residental neighborhood next to a commercial zone is always potentially problematic. There probably won’t be weekend noise, but expect trucks to come and go regularly, and roofers like to start work early during hot weather – it gets really hot up on those roofs. Just because there’s a roofing supply there now doesn’t mean the commercial use couldn’t change to some other commercial business in the future, either. In any case, it’s not like having an adjoining homeowner with a vested interest in keeping neighborhood values up. It’s also a potential draw for transients, and nobody’s there to keep an eye on things when the business is closed. Have you asked other neighbors how they feel about this business? That might be the best way to find out. I think you’re right to be wary.

to add to the above comments. another risk is that the roofing supply closes and you never know what the next commercial business might occupy the building. It might be a bar or a half way house. I had some friends build a new house on a large lot in mixed zoning. with many open lots. just after the finished their beautiful house some one bought three lots next to them and built a tall self storage complex. they are very unhappy about it.They never imagined something like that.

only if you want to live in the house forever—good luck selling it in 2, 5, 10 yrs and the noise will only be bad from 6am – 7pm Mon -Sat
