Mobile Home Repair???

My girlfriend has a 1970 Vagabond mobile home, single wide. The bathroom is at the comple rear of the trailer. The toilet has been leaking where the tank meets the bowl and has the vinyl floor tile loose and the plywood underneath “hooved” up to where the toilet is leaning back a little bit…The bathtub is next to the toilet, to the left, in close proximity. What I would like to know is what might be involved in the repair..we are thinking about removing the bathtub and replacing the floor..we know it needs a new toilet, but she would like a shower stall instead of the bathtub…is this feasible? and what is underneath the plywood floor? what does the tiolet pipe anchor to? any help would be appreciated..Thank you!!! the total area effected by the water is, at most, two 4 x 8 sheets of plywood…including the area under the tub.

  1. You will have to replace the floor reguardles if only around the toilet area, we had this problem in a mobile home years ago.
One thing to take into consideration as far as replacing the shower is will the new shower fit thru the existing door? That can be a problem with a mobile home….as far as replacing the floor when we replaced ours we used marine plywood and primed it as well around the toilet area….you shouldn’t have any problem with the plumbing, if you can’t replace the tub with the shower you will still have to remove the tub and replace the sub floor under it…good luck, this isn’t a hard job, just time consuming.

  2. The only thing anchoring the toilet, are two bolts holding it in the floor. if you`re going to replace the tub with a shower, you might as well redo the whole bathroom. Tear it all out because there`s no telling how far the water damage extends.

  3. Your right, you’ll need to replace the subfloor. Take the toilet out and buy a fiberglass shower enclosure. The Drain pipe is attached to the floor joist so it shouldn’t be a problem. But you want to get that mold problem solved right away.

  4. YES YOU WILL PROBLE HAFT TO TAKE THE EXSISTEN FLOORING UNDERNEATH IS PROB JUST FLOOR JOUST THATS ATTACHED TO THE TAR. THE COM PIPE IS PROB JUST GOING TO THE EXSISTING CITY SEWER LINE YOULL HAFT TO CUT A NOTHER HOLE .THAT WONT BE TO BAD AS FOR THE SHOWER UNIT IT WILL PROB HOOK UP TO THE EXISTING OUT GOING LINES YOU ALREADY HAVE GO FOR IT IT WILL JUST GET WORSE IF YOU DONT
