They sell really good books on all types of home repair from paiting, plumbing, floors, etc. at HOME DEPOT, and they are cheap, about $20

Most of the books I have read are written by folks wanting to
sell a book instead of really helping you to solve your problems.
Having said that – there are good tips to be had and bad advice
as well and its difficult to tell which is which without wasting time
and money. Kind of like getting advice from Yahoo Answers

General home improvement books are your best bet, here’s three that I use when I need to do something.
1. “Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual by Reader’s Digest (This one I like the most, has wide variety of projects and easy to understand steps)
2. “Big Book of Home How-To” by Better Homes & Garden’s
3. “The Complete Photo Guide to Home Improvement” by Black & Decker
There should be many others available at your local library or bookstore.
I reco you look at more than one source to do things, books and online b/c not any one place provides the best pictures or descriptions of how to do something correctly.
