Thats about right since house footage does not take into account the overhangs and roof pitch. If it bothers you so much call your insurance company and see what they allow.

because the roof is pitched its larger than1800 sq.ft.consider if you also have over hangs.and take into concideration the waste from cut pieces that can not be used.price sounds about right.good luck.

That's a pretty good price. And the excess square footage would be due to the pitch of the roof. Because of the angles, the actual square footage of the shingles required is much greater than the footprint of your house. If the roof was more steeply pitched, it would have required even more shingles for the same size house.

The general rule of thumb is that you multiply the floor area by 1.3 to allow for the pitch and then you add 10% for wastage like hips and valleys, lets do the math (1800 X 1.3 = 2340 x 1.1 = 2574 SQ FT or 26 squares. Conclusion: you got touched for 4 squares
But lets do some more math to see just how big of a touch it was, dimensional shingles are price at around $75 - $87per sq for 30 years life
81 (average) x 30 = $2430 just for the shingles. To lay the tiles expect to be charged $50 a square 30 x 50 = $1500
Expect to pay around $3 -$5 a lineal foot to have someone install vinyl (PVC) gutters, or about $360 -$600 for 120 feet and $750 -$1,250 for 250 feet. Vinyl gutters are a fairly simple do-it-yourself project; material alone run about $50 -$100 for 120 feet and $90 -$180 for 250 feet.
Yours is 180 FT so lets say $1000 Can we do a little arithmetic to see where we're at?
$1000
$1500
$2430
_______
$4930
Removing and disposing of the existing roofing material can add $510 -$1,100 for a basic ranch-style home -- and costs go higher depending on location and the difficulty of the removal project.
Lets add an average $750
$1000
$1500
$2430
$750
_______
$5680
Can we add some for felt and fastens $6 per square for felt and $5 for fastens $330
$1000
$1500
$2430
$750
$330
_______
$6010
And I'm going to add 10% or $600 for miscellaneous cost for facts I can't tell from you post.
Total $6610 yea dude he got you!
