  1. Fans spin in different directions to direct the air differently. I’m not sure which is which but one way blows the air downward and the other sucks it upward. So, if you have air conditioning, you’d want to have the air blown downwards. If you don’t have A/C, you’d want the air sucked upwards.
A quick google search would tell you which way is which!

  2. Ceiling fans are actually used in the opposite directions to what seems logical at first. Whether it’s in clockwise direction or not, the fan in summer should blow the air down. It cools you then mostly in the same way that standing in front of a floor fan does. In heating season, you set the fan to blow upwards. It will push the warm air up and then out towards the walls and down, and it will draw the cold air from the floor, so it equalizes the temperature by pushing the heated air away from the higher parts of the room. Stand under one when it’s running and you’ll see how much cooler you feel with air blowing down on you.

  3. The way they are designed is in summer, set the fan so the blades raise the cool air up from the floor. In winter, set the fan to push the warm air down from the ceiling. Hope this helps.
